Dr Who is a long way from pulling pints in the Rovers
HERE is former Corrie barmaid Sarah Lancashire making her villainous debut in the new series of Doctor Who.
The ex-Coronation Street actress stars as enigmatic and powerful businesswoman Miss Foster in the BBC1 drama.
Lancashire (43) said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be In Doctor Who. It's a brilliant episode and I'm looking forward to taking the Time Lord on."
She appears in the first episode, broadcast on Saturday evening, alongside Catherine Tate, who reprises her role as Donna, the runaway bride.
Donna and the Doctor, played by David Tennant, encounter murder mystery novelist Agatha Christie and take a trip to Pompeii.
They also encounter The Ood, one of Doctor Who's most popular aliens.
LAUNCH
Speaking at the launch of the series, Tate joked about her character not fancying the Time Lord.
She said: "Donna knows he's an alien. She knows he's got two hearts and she doesn't want to see what else he's doubled up on."
She also said she unexpectedly loved having a doll made of herself: "When they showed me the prototype of my doll I loved it. I don't think I'm supposed to love it as much as I do."
Tennant said he did not mind not having a romantic connection with his latest on-screen companion.
He said: "It's sort of the next thing to do. We've had a love story, we've had an unrequited love story, why not have this... they do love each other just platonically."
Billie Piper (25) reprises her role as the Time Lord's sidekick Rose Tyler, while guests stars also include Felicity Kendal and Peter Capaldi
