DR WHO is embarking on a new galactic mission — helping Liverpool kids to read more books.
In Booklaunch week early next month characters from the TV series, with sci-fi writers and cartoonists, will be helping Liverpool libraries.
The campaign with the slogan Zoom into your Library aims to promote libraries and books to young children.
Workshops, model exhibitions, games and competitions, videos and after-school library sessions will be aimed at five to 14 year olds.
Up-date
Assisting in the literary drive is writer and illustrator Tony Ross who lives in Anglesey but trained at Liverpool School of Art.
He has won awards for his humourist up-date style of making traditional characters interesting to today's tots.
Also helping is sci-fi author Douglas Hill who wrote the series The Galactic Warlord. The city council will be promoting the activities through Liverpool schools.
Thousands
"We hope we are going to get thousands of kids coming in," said a spokesman.
GROWN-UPS have not been left out of the libraries promotion.
Councillors have given approval for the purchase of a new mobile library to serve areas like West Derby. Hunts Cross and Belle Vale.
