Comic Con coming to Schaumburg library Saturday
"May the force be with you."
"Live long and prosper."
"Let it go!"
These are just a few of the phrases you will hear at Comic Con, coming to the Schaumburg Township District Library on Saturday, March 21. All ages are invited to drop by anytime from 1-4 p.m. for a variety of events taking place throughout the library.
Bring your camera to pose with a famous movie or comic book character, or have your picture taken in front of Dr. Who's famous time machine, the TARDIS.
Dress up and march in the costume parade, or have a face painter artistically transform you into your favorite superhero, villain or other character. All are welcome, from infants to grandpas. Kids, teens and adults will each have events designed just for them.
Intrigued? Check out the lineup below to see which events or activities speak to your inner superhero.
In the lobby, costumed characters, including members of Star Wars 501st Legion, will greet visitors and pose for photos from 1-4 p.m. Those who want to march in the costume parade should assemble at the Reception Desk at 2 p.m. In the Audiovisual Theatre, Cartoonist Angel Contreras will paint and draw superheroes right before your eyes. This exciting show will take place from 1-1:45 p.m. Also in the theater, Steven Frenzel will present "Hidden Harry Potter" from 2:30-4 p.m., showcasing hidden tidbits and little known facts in the Harry Potter movies.
Children are invited to the kidsZone from 1:30-3:30 for face painting in the Craft Room. Those who are age 13 and up may attend "Drawing Superheroes" from 1-2:30 p.m., taught by artist Dan Laib. Students ages 8-12 are welcome to take the same class from 3-4 p.m.
On the second floor, all are invited to peruse the work of local artists and writers from 1-4 p.m. in the Creators Room, located in the Rasmussen South Room. If you would like to become a character in a comic strip, get your picture or video taken from 1-4 p.m. in the Digital Production Studio and let the magic begin.
Ever wonder how comic creators get their inspiration, weave their stories, or create their heroes and villains? Listen to a panel of talented writers and artists from 2-3 p.m. in the Adult Classroom. Questions welcome.
Those ages 12 and up are invited to join the fun in "Fandom Freakout" from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in Teen Place. Meet other fans of pop culture and cult favorites, enjoy a fandom smackdown and make Harry Potter's famous "butterbeer."
"Geeking out with friends over characters, unforgettable quotes and ultimate OTPs (one true pairings) is a part of living the fandom life," said Teen librarian Katie LaMantia. "We are celebrating and appreciating pop culture in a way only true fans know how to -- at Comic Con! We hope everyone will come to this fun event on March 21."
Come to as many events as you like -- they are all free, and no registration is required. Rest assured, the library will be ready with exciting people, events and activities. The question is ... are YOU ready for Comic Con?
