BIRMINGHAM birdwatcher Bill Oddie wants Doctor Who bosses to reunite his comedy trio, The Goodies.

"The Goodies ceased to exist in 1981, while Doctor Who is still going strong," he says. "However, the two shows are not unconnected.

"Not one, but two, Doctor Whos appeared as guest weirdos on The Goodies. In 1972, Patrick Troughton played arch villain Dr Wolfgang Adoiphous Rat-Phink Von Petal. And in the early 1970s Peter Davison made an appearance.

"My thanks to Doctor Who for letting us borrow a couple of actors, provoking us to send up the Daleks by sticking a sink plunger on a talking dustbin, and for giving us hours and hours of pleasure.

"When casting comes up for the next Doctor Who series, all three Goodies, despite their advancing years, are still capable of remembering lines, looking wry or fearful as the scene demands, and being helped and abetted by attractive female assistants.

"Here's an idea. How about three Doctor Whos at the same time? Sort of a split personality, but three ways, not just two?"
