WHO has bought the Whomobile?

The amazing little runaround (right) designed and owned by actor Jon Pertwee when he appeared as Dr Who in the BBC series has been sold at a Farnborough car auction, but the new owners identity is a secret.

"He is a flamboyant sort of character who is in entertainment," said Mr John Snow, site director at the British Car Auctions branch.

Now the sleek, winged, skirted craft does not exactly square up with Jon's Worzel Gummidge role.

Bidding

The two-seater is powered by a souped up Hillman Imp engine, and has concealed wheels. It has a real mini TV set - ideal for those boring traffic jams — and a fake telephone and computer terminal.

The new owner did his bidding over the phone, and eventually got the Whomobile for just £1,625.

Mr Snow was hoping it would fetch £2,000. "It needs a fair bit of work," he said.
