[edit]

KCET Channel 28 topped 28 public television stations that participated in a 10-day membership drive with $222,096, on 9,152 pledges. The total dollar figure will be higher because all new or upgraded memberships in the station are being matched dollar-for-dollar by the Ford Foundation, according to James L. Loper, president and general manager of KCET.

The average membership pledge was more than $24, up $1 from the average during last March's drive.

The most popular programs among those pledging included "Steambath," a Beverly Sills performance and interview, Boston Pops performances, several professional tennis matches, Murder Must Advertise, and Dr. Who.
