HE'S USED to travelling through space and time but the new Doctor Who may need to tune up the Tardis for a gruelling world tour. Thousands of fans of the hit BBC sci-fi series descended on Cardiff yesterday as Peter Capaldi, who plays the Doctor's 12th incarnation, began the international adventure.
The 56-year-old Scot and Jenna Coleman — who plays his companion Clara Oswald — brought The Hayes shopping centre to a standstill as they signed autographs.
Tickets for the first screening of the latest episode, Deep Breath, were snapped up within minutes — with some fans travelling from as far as France, Japan and the US.
Among them were the Fedderson family from Chicago who booked a holiday to France but amended their plans when they heard about the premiere.
Mother Kristan, 47, said: 'My husband Brett and I have been fans of the show since the 1980s.' Capaldi and Coleman, 28, later travelled to London and will visit South Korea, Australia, the US, Mexico and Brazil before the series begins on BBC1 on August 23.
Capaldi promised 'a fun Doctor' who is 'a bit fiercer' . A boyhood fan of the show, he feared he had messed up his audition.
'I thought, "That's it, I'm out of the loop." But, if that's as far as it goes, at least I've played one scene as Doctor Who,' he added.
