Dr Who gets up to you know what!

DR WHO, television's veteran Time Lord, is to be transformed into a macho James Bond-style hero in a blockbuster movie.

The big-screen doctor, to be played by major Hollywood star Donald Sutherland, will brawl with baddies in bar-rooms and (whisper it) honk his beautiful assistant.

What's more, he seems to have lost his taste for very young ladies with squeaky voices.

His spaced-out friend is Caroline Munro, who is nudging 40 and still out of this world.

She was the original Lambs Navy Rum girl and once provided the glamour in the top game show 3-2-1.

Dr Who's role, when he's not involved in a roll, is to save the universe.

Ridiculous

Nothing new about that, but someone close to the film project promised: "It will be a far cry from the TV series.

"The movie will be rather like Star Wars, with a whole host of spectacular space battles."

Canadian-born Sutherland landed the part of Dr Who in the face of stiff competition from British actors.

The role had been linked with John Cleese, Dudley Moore, Bob Hoskins and the current TV doctor, Sylvester McCoy.

Production will cost £20 million and the script is by veteran Dr Who writer Johnny Byrne.

He said: "I can't say too much about the film at the moment but one aspect is the doctor's relationship with his assistant.

"It's ridiculous that they could spend so much time together without getting emotionally involved."

Many Dr Who fans world-wide would argue that he has managed to stay celibate for around a quarter of a century.

Anyway, saving the universe shouldn't allow time for romance.
