He is held by giant

A THEME PARK'S robot sea monster ran out of control — and bit one of the team building its lair.

Victim George Thain, 53, was formerly a set designer for the cult Dr Who sci-fi series on TV.

He was grabbed by the arm and shoulder as the £100,000 high-tech beast, named Moghar, lunged at him. George, who had been working in Moghar's rock-pool, screamed in agony as its fibreglass teeth sank into him.

Colleagues dived into the water and fought for five minutes to free him.

He was back at work yesterday after first-aid to his badly bruised arm, which had to be strapped up.

Father-of-two George, from East Sheen, London, said: "It just seemed to come alive all of a sudden. I heard a click and a whirr and the next thing I knew it was on me. I was frightened for my life."

He added: "I was in absolute agony and I couldn't move. It felt like I was in his grasp for an hour."

Officials at the Land's End tourist attraction in Cornwall blamed a computer fault for sending the hydraulic-powered monster haywire.

Land's End chairman Cairns Boston said visitors will be kept 3ft away from the danger area and Moghar will be "strapped down" when the centre opens tomorrow — April 1.
