My close encounter with K9 by Jilly Cooper whose holiday guest was Dr Who's canine companion, the robot star of tonight's TV special
WEARY of wandering round the galaxy, missing his old master, longing for a home, K9—the most famous stray in the universe—landed on earth for the Christmas holidays. He chose England because he'd heard we were a nation of dog lovers. Discovering I was a champion of the underdog, he decided to visit me in Putney, and discuss the problems of being an outcast with my three mongrels.
This fitted in perfectly with my plans because I felt there was one thing missing from my recent dog-tales series in the Daily Mail a magnificent mechanical mongrel.
