TELEVISION's timeless time lord delighted a new generation of fans when the Tardis materialised at the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton.
Dr Who, The Ultimate Adventure, has returned to the Midlands, with replacement doctor, Colin Baker revitalising the show in succession to Jon Pertwee.
Baker, who plays the sixth incarnation of the mysterious time traveller, has brought a pantomime atmosphere to the show which received a standing ovation from an enthusiastic family audience.
The first man on his feet to applaud was a middle-aged man with glasses and a beard, proving the doctor and his two trusty young companions still appeal for all ages.
Having seen the original production of this musical play the adjustments made to both script and delivery have greatly improved it.
The effects are still as stunning, the laser and light show still as dazzling, but the whole performance is tighter, snappier and much funnier.
The show features all the old favourites, with Daleks and Cybermen attempting yet again to take over Planet Earth, and inevitably failing to do so thanks to the intervention of the Doctor and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher!
The cast seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the knock- about humour which has now been injected into the play, with Colin Baker bombastically bouncing around the stage in a technicolour dreamcoat that would knock the spots off Joseph's, and David Banks hamming it up outrageously as renegade mercenary, Karl.
Colin Baker told me he had intentionally altered the script to fit in with his portrayal of the doctor.
He said: "My doctor was different from the third doctor, as played by Jon Pertwee he is more outgoing and cocky.
"I wanted to bring my personality to the production, so we changed a bit of the script, and everyone is having a good time."
The Tardis and its occupants will remain at the Grand until tomorrow (Saturday).
