NICOLA BRYANT joins the cast of Doctor Who as the Doctor's new assistant in Planet of Fire, a four-part adventure story by Peter Grimwade, which begins on BBC-1 at 6.40 pm and was partly filmed on the island of Lanzarote.

The Doctor (Peter Davison) is attracted to the island by the sudden ignition of an alien distress signal. Here he meets Prof. Foster and his step-daughter Perpugilliam Brown, known as Peri. Perl is on board the Tardis when it is involuntarily transported to the planet of Sarn where there is vicil unrest as the planet Is on the verge of being destroyed troyed by volcanic activity. Turlough is able to reveal valuable information about the planet Sarn but things become worse with the arrival of the Master.
