[edit]

ACTRESS Nicola Bryant, who plays time traveller Peri Brown in Dr Who tonight (BBC1 5.20 pm.) has been travelling virtually non-stop.

From the age of six, her father Denis took her on 'his business trips to America: "My mother is terrified of flying and he didn't like going alone.' said Nicola.

"Since then, I have gone both with him and by myself. Even when I finished school at 17 I went to travel around France and Switzerland"

Nicola, 23, landed her part of Dr Who's 25th assistant in its 22-year history only 10 days after leaving drama college.

"I had watched the series, during John Pertwee's days as the Doctor and always liked what I saw," she said.

Already she can compare the style of two doctors she's worked with — actors Peter Davison and Colin Baker. "Peter had a very light approach and brought a natural touch to the part.

"As the episodes went on, that became more and more refreshing. Coli, the sixth doctor, brings out the eccentricity of Patrick Troughton (an early Dr Who) and the grumpiness of William Hartnell (the original. Doctor). Colin is my favourite."

Nicola gets up to 500 letters a week—mostly from men.

But at the moment American boyfriend Scott Bayliss, 28, is the only man in her life.

We met two years ago at a Christmas party and have been close ever since."
