NO, you haven't teleported into an alternate universe - Dr Who DID really turn up in Stockton for a spot of afternoon tea!

The seventh doctor, Sylvester McCoy, delighted sci-fi fans young and old when he arrived - via the blue Tardis of course - in Stockton as part of the Ka-Pow! sci-fi market and family fun day on Saturday.

Terry Molloy - better known as Davros - and John Levene - UNIT's Sergeant Benton from Dr Who - were also at the event, held in the high street and Wellington Square.

The event was organised by memorabilia shop Who-Ray! on Silver Street, Stockton Council and Wellington Square.

Brian Burr from Who-Ray! said: "It's been a very hectic day and very successful.

"I think we definitely underestimated how busy this was going to be.

"Thousands of people must have come along."

Since the shop opened in 2010, Brian and his partner Martin Shipley have run a few events with celebrity Dr Who guests.

"But we've never had a Doctor before, that's a real coup for us," he said.

Specialist traders had stalls in the marquee on the high street selling a range of design-led sci-fi themed and TV/filmrelated toys, action figures and collectables.

Visitors could buy up quirky gifts and memorabilia, both modern and vintage.

Costumed characters were also out in force across the town.

And TV scriptwriter Dean Wilkinson and artist Michael Pounder held drop-in art workshops on how to create superheroes and monsters.
