Plug is pulled on beer ad
OUT of work Dr Who star Sophie Aldred has been banned from making a lucrative TV commercial because of her associations with the famous time traveller.
Sophie was all set to appear in an ad for a well-known beer. But TV watchdogs warned: E-X-T-E-R-M-I-N-A-T-E!
Stunning
When they got to hear of the plan, they decided that the stunning young actress was still so popular with young viewers that it would be inappropriate to have her endorsing booze.
Yet it's now two and a half years since the good doctor's assistant, Ace, was last seen in the series. "Just how long Dr Who will have a hold over what I am allowed to do I don't know," says Sophie.
"It's not as if I signed anything to say that I agreed not to do certain jobs.
"I had the costume fittings and everything. Then the advertisng controllers found out and they said that I couldn't do it."
Bemused
But Sophie, currently unemployed after making Melvin and Maureen's Music-a- Gram, a children's music and drama series for the BBC, to be screened next year, isn't upset by the ruling...just a little bemused.
"I can understand the line they are taking now it's been pointed out to me. I appreciate that Dr Who had millions of young fans and I wouldn't want to do anything to encourage them to drink.
"I'm just surprised that I am restricted in what I can do after so long."
