Sylvester isn't the real McCoy

[edit]

I AM very worried about Dr Who. As he starts his 26th year of being chased down dreary BBC corridors by clanking extras from outer space he seems to have become a serious case for treatment.

Sylvester McCoy is the least distinguished Doctor so far. With his scruffy outfits and silly hat he looks like one of those seaside photographers with no film in his camera.

And wide-eyed Sophie Aldred, as his sidekick Ace, needs to expand her range of expressions from the current two — a catatonic stare and blind terror.

The latest tale was the usual tosh involving the Knights of the Round Table and nuclear convoys.

With two Range Rovers and a helicopter in the opening episode all the budget went on transport instead of the script.

Rescue

The only hopeful sign is the race to the rescue by Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart, who zoomed out of retirement to help extricate McCoy from his usual unbelievable jam.

"Whenever the Doctor turns up all hell breaks loose," said the Brigadier, obviously referring to the show's good old days.

This time, lined up against Coronation Street in the schedules, it looks as though at last it could be the final adventure for the tedious Time Lord.
