Only if you had been on another planet for the last week would you have failed to notice that the Americans have taken over Dr Who, turned it into a feature film and morphed Sylvester McCoy into Paul McGann. This isn't as alarming as it sounds Despite the San Francisco setting and a modem physical relationship with a woman, McGann's doctor remains steadfastly Who-ish in clothes that could have come straight out of the BBC's mothballed Victoriana wardrobe. Only the most rigid traditionalists will baulk at the upgrading of the programme from its home-made, Crossroads style into proper science fiction with a budget.
