Two new series have started on Channel Three in the last fortnight which illustrate amply that there is some good left in the British TV industry.
Doctor Who, Saturday, must by now be in its 18th year of production and it still shows no signs of running out of ideas or entertainment value.
So successful has the show been in Britain that it now has a loyal adult following, many of whom I suspect have been avid Doctor fans since childhood.
Winner
It concerns a time-travelling scientist and his, girl Friday who flit about the cosmos in a police phone box. Since it began in the sixties, Doctor Who has been played by a number of excellent British character actors including Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, William Hartnell and Tom Baker.
The Daleks are his main adversaries and they crop up from time to time in a number of centuries. It really is an excellent production and one of the BBC's all-time winners. But it's a shame that Channel Three has slotted it in around 8.00pm--too late for the audience it was originally intended for.
