Trouble with a thriller is that you can't say too much about it. The whole point is not knowing what comes next.
What I can say about Corpse! at the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton, this week, is that it is a fascinating, amusing and totally absorbing show that should not be missed.
I reveal no great secrets to say that former Dr Who Colin Baker plays a dual role as twins Evelyn and Rupert Farrant.
Out-of-work actor Evelyn wants to bump off rich Rupert and employs dubious ex-serviceman Major Powell —Jack Watling — to do the job.
Of course, it turns out to be not as simple as that. Not by any means.
Author and director Gerald Moon has created a perfectly tangled web of deception.
Corpse! is cunningly worked out and beautifully staged in a set that revolves between squalid basement and lordly home with barely a squeak.
Colin Baker also revolves —between the characters of the scheming actor and his miserly brother, and he does it with great panache.
Jack Watling is equally entertaining as the untrustworthy Major with his great presence and control.
It all knits together so well that the evening passes in a flash of good, solid entertainment that will keep you spellbound. Do see it.
