Forget the Cybermen: fear the Celtic invasion! With the new series of Doctor Who weeks away, son of Glasgow Peter Capaldi was spotted filming in Cardiff with fellow Scot Michelle Gomez. The Green Wing and Bad Education actress will play the mysterious "Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere", and was described by (Scottish) showrunner Steven Moffat as "everything we need — brilliant, Scottish, and a tiny bit satanic". She might look like Mary Poppins, but we wouldn't drink her medicine.
An even more important shift behind the scenes sees a female director joining Who for the first time since 2010. Rachel Talalay, who's American, has said she's "sworn to secrecy on everything to do with the storyline" but last week tweeted: "I really did have my birthday on the Tardis with the Doctor and Clara."
