THE Daleks came rumbling in and good old Dr Who was nowhere to be seen.
The children at Woolhampton Primary School fete threw up their arms and ran away screaming.
But these Daleks, although the genuine article from the BBC, must have been reformed characters.
For they weren't half so violent as they were on television and they even made friends with the children above.
"They were a huge success." said headmistress Mrs Catherine Wenington-Jones.
"I think they attracted quite a number of people. A lot of the adults were interested too," she added.
The models, and tapes of Dalek voices, were borrowed for the fete by BBC 24 Hours reporter David Lomax, who lives in the village and has two children attending the school.
Other attractions were pony rides, coconut shies, Punch and Judy and other side-shows. More than 300 people attended.
Children at the school, which has pupils aged from five to 11, provided some of the entertainment.
