[edit]

REMEMBER when top-class science fiction meant teatime television viewing, jumping with surprise when some bizarrely-clad alien made out of crinkly paper and old drainpipes crept up on John Pertwee or Patrick Troughton from behind a rock in a quarry?

Well now you can relive those heady days with the latest BBC video classic Dr Who release, 'The Keys of Marinus'.

The first Doctor, William Hartnell, is accompanied by original companions Susan, Ian and Barbara, in what was the fifth 'Who' storyline ever broadcast, in spring 1964.

The dated, lumbering style and technical quality of the black and white footage is light years removed from today's idea of all-action, computer-enhanced sci-fi wizardry.

And yet, doesn't it seem compelling all the same?

Enjoy nearly two-and-a-half hours of this double tape release as the Doctor and friends struggle to prevent the sinister Yartek, leader the alien Voord, attempt to gain control of the minds of everyone on planet Marinus.
