Blue Box Cafe
Whatever you do, don't blink, because you just might miss this quaint Doctor Who-inspired coffee shop and deli in Elgin. But every true Doctor Who fan knows that the T.A.R.D.I.S is bigger on the inside, so it's no surprise that what appears to be a tiny space can fit around 40 customers. Doctor Who art and photography tie the theme together, while delicious sandwiches, salads, soups and a full espresso bar with lattes, cappuccinos and mochas keep guests coming back. Signatures include the Elgin Club with turkey, roast beef, Black Forest ham, applewood smoked bacon, Sriracha mayo and pepper jack cheese. On Saturdays, come for a live podcast in which the restaurant owners interview authors or band. Open: Breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday-Saturday. Prices: Sandwiches $5-$8. 176 E. Chicago St., Elgin.
