Who's next? Tom Baker, the fourth actor to portray Dr Who, is to leave the BBC television series, it was announced yesterday. He took over from Jon Pertwee as the vivid inter-galactic character in 1974, and the audience has increased. He will be seen in the series until next March. Mr Baker said that he had suggested James Stewart, the film actor, as his replacement. "But the producer and I have entirely different ideas. The new Dr Who may even be a woman." The BBC said "We know who we want to replace him, hut negotiations are continuing".
