[edit]

HER skirt may not be the regulation length but Doctor Who's new assistant makes an arresting sight dressed as a police officer.

Actress Karen Gillan, 21, was filming her debut scenes yesterday as the Time Lord's sidekick Amy Pond.

She was out on the streets of Cardiff with the new Doctor, Matt Smith.

Flame-haired Karen — who is 5ft 11in tall — beat hundreds of hopefuls to land the coveted part.

Yesterday her supermodel looks were much in evidence as she raced through the streets trying to keep up with the 11th Doctor.

Dishevelled

But while Karen made an impact in her smart uniform, the new Doctor was looking decidedly dishevelled in muddy trainers, ripped pinstripe trousers and a tatty shirt as he ran from his latest enemies.

Producers are keeping the plot of the latest 13-part series strictly under wraps.

However, one storyline is said to include the Doctor battling Nazi troops as he goes back in time to the start of the Second World War.

And he will discover wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill has an army of Daleks to fight the Germans.

Arriving in Cardiff, where the show is filmed, Smith, 26, said, "I feel very privileged and proud to be part of this iconic show."

He will be seen in the new series next spring, after three goodbye specials with current Doctor Who, David Tennant, 38.
