Theatre fans in the West Midlands will probably consider their choice of entertainment largely limited next week.

Many of lire main venues are dark, and those that are not offer productions that are unlikely to appeal to anyone other than sci-fi or jazz fans

The Tardis materialises in Wolverhampton on Monday, transporting Of Who to the Grand Theatre to begin a week of intergalactic bat ring against a variety of alien nasties.

Actor Colon Baker, who was the sixth Dr Who and played the role in the long-running BBC1 series for three years before retiring in 1986, will again be defending the wend from decimation in this stage production which runs until Saturday.

Inevitably involved in the battle are those nasty exterminating aliens The Daleks, leading another dastardly scheme for cosmic domination, and calling on those other B-team reserve nasties The Cybermen for maximum effect.

The special effects of this stage show are ingenious, when images of the interplanetary travel are beamed on to a massive on-stage screen alongside laser lighting techniques, and sound effects that complete a fine attempt to transfer to stage this very popular TV series.
