NEWS reaches me of a sale of BBC costumes at Bonhams later this month. Considering that the smartest BBC costume I have ever seen is John Birt's Armani linen powersuit, I am intrigued what they will find to flog.

One of the star exhibits is a black velvet jacket circa 1973. The fact that it was worn by Jon Pertwee in Dr Who means it could fetch £1,000. Other excitements include Sylvester McCoy's pocket watch and Tom Baker's hat in a job lot of clobber from Red Dwarf and Dr Who. Also on offer are props from Blake's Seven, whose set, a rhapsody in polystyrene, "must have cost at least several pounds", as one critic commented at the time.
