PIN back your ears -- the deliciously dotty dialogue which has permeated "Dr Who" scripts for 25 years is back with us again.
"Dephase must have caused an overload." uttered the Doctor looking aghast in last night's programme.
For me he could have said. "Doo wah diddy diddy dum diddy doo," as I would have understood it just as well.
But that is all part of the "Dr Who" flavour which we have come to love.
All the ingredients for the show's enduring appeal were present in the first episode of the Silver Jubilee season.
"Remembrance of the Daleks" brought us the Doctor's sly charm, his companion's steadfastness and the megalomania of the villains, together with a pacey story and standard cliffhanger ending.
It was also an opportunity for nostalgia with the Tardis materialising in the same place-an East End junkyard, at the same time - 1963 - when the Doctor's adventures began. There were perfectly pitched performances from an all-star cast, notably Si mon Williams as the archetypal stiff-upper-lipped RAF officer.
The most pleasant surprise was tubby Tardis traveller, Ace. Playing the new companion was Sophie Aldred who this week revealed she was once anorexic. Now she is light years away from that unhappy state but her talent is enormous. Her bubbly performance set the tone for the rest of the show.
Sylvester McCoy is now in his second series as the Doctor, a role he happily fits like a second skin.
Although it is possible to detect the odd characteristic of previous Tardis residents, he has made the part his own creating a dapper Doctor likeable for his sunny nature. The real McCoy in fact.
