SIR — With regards the advertisement on page 30 of your issue of January 15, and as representatives of a coalition of Doctor Who Fan Clubs and organisations, I would like to reiterate that we are indeed upset.

The attitude of the BBC programming executives toward the people they are supposed to be serving appears to be one of total disregard — and before there is any commentary on the fact that we American viewers are not a part of your immediate audience and do not pay licence fees, note that we do pay membership to the PBS stations which carry Doctor Who and other BBC productions, and we do buy the greater share of the merchandise generated by the same All that aside, however, and bearing in mind that the BBC, like everything else, it seems, is governed by the very basest politics, the games that are being played with the most popular BBC programme on the world market are childish and beneath the dignity of even a Michael Grade.

An actor of the stature of Colin Baker, and a production team of the talent and dedication of the Doctor Who team shouldn't have to put up with that kind of garbage.
