DOC DROPS HER COMPANIONS

FORGET Joey, Ross and Rachel.

There are a new batch of "friends" about to burst on to our TV screens.

Doctor Who bosses no longer want to call the people who travel with the Time Lord in the Tardis "companions" or "assistants" like they have done for 55 years. Instead they will be referred to "friends".

With a new era of the BBC sci-fi show looming - with Jodie Whittaker playing the first ever female Doc - more changes are coming to make it more 21st Century friendly.

This means The Chase host Bradley Walsh, who will play Graham in the show, along with Tosin Cole and Mendip Gill as police officers Ryan and Yasmin are now friends not companions. Jodie tells Radio Times: "This is Doctor Who, so we know there will be a Tardis, a sonic screwdriver and me and my new friends. "We've all had the best time making it, so hopefully you don't hate it!"

New showrunner Chris Chibnall adds: 'All the rules are out the window! That's what makes it so fun.

"The 13th Doctor is incredibly lively, warm, funny, energetic, inclusive - she's the greatest friend you could wish to have as your guide around the universe."

The new series will debut in October.
