[edit]

Doctor Who fans face disappointment this Christmas as many toy stores have predicted shortages of the merchandise associated with the cult show.

With only 49 days left until Christmas, time is running out for those who wish to get their hands on the radio-controlled Dalek in particular.

Toy stores are saying late deliveries of the merchandise from the new series, broadcast earlier in the year on BBC1, meant they had already sold out of most of their stock, and they could not guarantee whether they would be able to replace it before December 25.

Imports

After the clamour for toys such as Buzz Lightyear, Beyblades, Teletubbies and Tracy Island in recent years, Doctor Who products are set to become the toys that parents will go to the ends of the earth to find.

Alan Caswell, who runs the Arcade Toyshop in the Fountain Arcade, Dudley, said he just sold out of the, radio-controlled Dalek yesterday.

"I have a very good friend who actually imports these toys and he has said he expects supplies to be extremely short, of the radio-controlled Dalek in particular," he said.

"Those, along with other merchandise such as Tardis moneybanks and Sonic Screwdrivers, are literally flying off the shelves. There are going to be definite shortages in some stores. They are working on a mould in the Far East at the moment to try and make more of the Daleks, but that won't be sorted until the New Year.

"I am expecting a delivery of some more Daleks at the end of November, but you can't guarantee how long they will last.

"It is a trait of our business that at certain times of the year everybody is after the same thing, and demand often outstrips supply."
