DR Who: An apology. Apparently many of you will be tuning in today hoping to read a review. What can I say? I'm sorry. I didn't realise it was on.
If only the BBC had got their finger out and promoted it better.
Only kidding. I did watch it. And I'm happy to report it was proper behind the sofa stuff. I was behind the sofa looking for my remote control.
But surprisingly not because of Billie Piper's performance she was more than adequate, if a little Grange Hill at times.
Christopher Eccleston was the one causing alarm. If he was trying to bring some mystery to the part he succeeded - because I spent most of the night trying to work out which Chuckle Brother he'd come as. And wondering when Steve McDonald will want his leather coat back.
And the monsters were a bit crappy. I can't imagine kids who've grown up on Men In Black, Buffy and Cat Deeley being scared by a talking underground blancmange.
By far the crappiest were those faceless showroom dummies, although to be fair it was nice to see Adam Rickett back in work so soon.
Yeah, I know it was only the first episode. But the new Dr Who already has no place in primetime. It's basically a teatime kids show - a bit like My Parents Are Aliens, but not half as funny.
It might get better next week. But if it's all the same to you BBC', I think I'll stick with Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway. But thanks for trying.
