DR WHO is the BBC's largest selling programme overseas. The money the Corporation makes from overseas sales plus the royalties received from associated merchandise can more than pay for the production of the programme although that money to dale has never been wholly ploughed back into it.
The USA, which is one of the biggest markets, buys packages of the Dr Who series for syndication. Axing the programme will lead to loss of revenue by the BBC and therefore drama production problems in the future.
