EVERYONE remembers the Daleks and the Cybermen.

Now a new generation of nestles will send Doctor Who fans scurrying behind the sofa.

And they certainly seem to be better made than some of the monsters which threatened the Time Lord in the show's heyday in the Sixties and Seventies.

The extraordinary-looking creations pictured above appear in the new series which begins on BBC1 on Saturday. March 26. On the left is the Face of Boe, what appears to be the headr0f a large alien preserved in a tank of life-giving fluid and protected by two small blue guards.

On the right is the Moxx of Balhoon, an evil-looking squat blue creature with an oversized brain and a belly to match They have gathered in the year 5billion to watch the end of the Earth as the Sun explodes and encounter the Doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston, and his companion Rose (Billie Piper).

Some old enemies will also return. The Daleks will appear halfway through the series having solved their stair-climbing problem by learning to fly.

And the first episode features the Autons, the shop window dummies which first terrorised Jon Pertwee's Doctor in 1970.
