[edit]

Colin Baker, the TV actor viewers once loved to hate, has landed the part of Dr. Who.

Colin, who will start filming in December played the villainous banker Paul Merroney in the BBC series The Brothers. He even shot the current Dr. Who, Peter Davison, who appeared as a guard in a Brothers episode in January.

But Colin, 40, had clearly reformed yesterday when he met Nicola Bryant, who is to become the doctor's first American assistant Peri. "I think she's stunning," he said.

Colin, the former husband of TV star Liza Goddard, is now married to actress Marion Wyatt. He will be the sixth Dr. Who in the show's 20 year run.
