[edit]

FORMER Time Lord Colin Baker chatted to Dr Who fans during an event in the NorthEast yesterday.

The actor, who starred in the programme from 1984 to 1986, was joined by his companion Peri, played by Nicola Bryant, and Ace, Sophie Aldred, who accompanied the seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy.

They were all at Lanchester Community Centre, near Consett, in County Durham, along with robotic dog K9, Daleks and Cybermen.

Mr Baker said: "This is a great way to say thank you to all of the people who have supported us over the years.

"To come to somewhere like Lanchester, which in some ways is in the middle of nowhere, and find a few hundred people who are prepared to give up their Sunday to talk to us is very heart warming.

"It has been really nice to say hello to a few people."

There was a full-sized Tardis and costumes from the series on display, along with merchandise from the show.

The day also included alien face-painting for children, an alien cake competition and interviews with the actors.

Ms Aldred said: "These events are all about socialising and talking about something that you love.

"Dr Who is something kids want to watch over again, which is so lovely, because for a while there was a bit of a lull, but suddenly it has come back with a vengeance."
