"Dr. Who," the wildly popular British science-fiction series, is coming to North Texas July 6. KERA/Channel 13, the Dallas/Fort Worth public television station, has acquired the broadcast rights to more than 60 full-length "Dr. Who" movies and will make the bizarre adventures of the quirky, 750-year-old time traveler a regular Saturday night feature.

Six different actors have played Dr. Who since the series premiered in November 1963 and became a national hit in England. Channel 13's episodes star Tom Baker, the fourth and, according to many fans, most popular Dr. Who, and Baker's successor, Peter ("All Creatures Great and Small") Davison.

Described by Time magazine as "something like 'Star Trek' as conceived by Monty Python, "Dr. Who" is seen by an estimated 100 million people in 54 countries, including more than 110 stations in the United States. The doctor's adventures on Channel 13 will kick off Saturday; July 6, with three back-to-back movies beginning at 8 p.m. and will continue with a different feature every Saturday night at 10.
