[edit]

A BBC TV special to mark the 30th anniversary of Dr Who has been scrapped after a squabble over who hogs the Tardis.

The 90-minute show was to have featured the five surviving actors who played the Doctor over the years - Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee, Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy.

A BBC statement said it was shelved for 'financial and logistical' reasons.

But last night one of the five, who refused to be identified, said the project fell apart because it was based around just one Doctor - Tom Baker.

The 'furious' actor said: 'It was very much a starring role for him and spit-and-cough parts for the rest of us. I thought the BBC would do something about it. Well, they have, they shelved it and that's extraordinary. Many people will be very disappointed.'

According to a BBC source, at least three doctors rejected the project when they learned Baker would have five weeks' work while they would have a week apiece.

'They don't feel any animosity towards Tom - but they're very angry with the BBC,' he said.
