Billed as "X Files meets This Life", Torchwood follows a crack team of investigators charged with defending the planet from villainy both human and alien in origin.
Coming from the fevered pen of Russell T Davies (Queer as Folk, Dr Who), Torchwood promises high-concept thrills, classy banter and intra-team sexual shenanigans. And with bonking bisexual Captain Jack Harkness on hand (played by John Barrowman, reprising his character from Dr Who), those anal-probe wielding aliens may have finally met an adversary who can give as good as he gets.
But does Barrowman have the charisma to helm a series of his own? And more importantly, can he dispel the aroma de la geek which normally hangs around sci-fi like a Tiberian spacebat?
Coming to BBC3 at the end of October
