THE death was also announced this week of another well known television writer, Brian Hayles.

Mr Hayles, who was 47, was for many years a scriptwriter with the BBC. contributing extensively to The Archers. He also wrote episodes of Dr Who. Z Cars. Doomwatch and The Regiment, and published books based on both The Archers and Dr Who.

He specialised in thrillers and horror stories and, three years ago. wrote The House of the Werewolf. described as the first horror play for children. The BBC will shortly be transmitting his children's serial Moon Stallion.

He leaves a widow and four sons.
