Brian Hayles, who has died, aged 47, was for many years of B.B.C. scriptwriter who wrote for The Archers and several television series. His other scripts included "Z Cars," "Doomwatch" and "The Regiment."
A prolific writer, his books included two "Dr. Who" novels and a novel about the Archers. He recently completed "Moon Stallion," a BBC children's serial and was working on a remake of the Sabu film "The Thief of Baghdad."
Much of his work was on thrillers and horror tales. In 1975 he wrote "The House of the Werewolf for Unicorn Theatre, described as the first horror play for children, following it in 1976 with "The Curse of the Labyrinth.
