SIR - Your report (Sept 26) that the appointment of Russell T. Davies as writer of the new Doctor Who is likely to "alarm purists", because Mr Davies once wrote a Channel 4 drama about some gay men.
Do you expect a Doctor Who dressed in pink, mincing about and saying, "Shut that Tardis door"? Mr Davies is a fine writer who has contributed to many excellent television dramas. His skills as a writer are obvious to all. Doctor Who is in safe hands.
