A PETITION signed by more than 500 people — many of them children — who asked "Dr Who" (actor Norman Hartnell) to crown Brasted's carnival queen on August Bank Holiday (August 29) has failed because Mr. and Mrs. Hartnell will he on holiday then.

The petition was organised and sent to Mr. Hartnell by Mr. Ted Comer, chairman of Brasted carnival. Replying to it on behalf of her husband, Mrs. Heather Hartnell says: " ... My husband has been innundated with many requests, but your letter with its enclosures is the nicest invitation he has ever received ...
