[edit]

Fourteen awards and nine certificates of merit were presented to public television promotion professionals during the PBS PI Conference, June 22 in New Orleans. Among those receiving awards was Louisiana Public Broadcasting for local promotion of a national series: DR. WHO.

The thirty-second on-air promotional spot was produced at LPB's studio with the aid of award winning Dalek (robot enemy of DR. WHO) designer and local Baton Rouge resident, John Newman. Total cost of the spot production was $25.00; for dry ice.

When LPB acquired the DR. WHO series in May of 1982, the promotions department began coordinating their efforts with a local DR. WHO fan, John Newman. John is the builder of a "Dalek" for which he was awarded special recognition at the 1982 international DR. WHO fan club convention in Chicago, IL.
