[edit]

MONDAY night's new film version of Dr Who might usefully have been rechristened Dr Who? So little did it have in common with the original. Slick production values — even a car chase, for heaven's sake — turned it into just one more forgettable American thriller. It made you pine for the days when the whole thing was made out of Weetabix boxes and Bacofoil.

And what can they be thinking of, setting the film in San Francisco? Part of the charm and indeed the fearfulness of the old series was that the greatest forces of evil in the history of the universe always seemed to be unleashed on Purley.
