Daleks wage war on the Teletubbies in fight to be top toy this Christmas

VOICE-CHANGING Dalek heads and dancing Teletubbies are set to be the must-have toys this Christmas, Hamleys said today.

The store today unveiled its top picks for 2008, warning parents they may need to buy soon to avoid disappointment.

"There is always a toy that sells out in November, that parents absolutely have to have," said Keane Herman of Hamley's Regent Street store.

"This year we think it will be the Dance With Me Teletubby dolls, costing £39 each. The Teletubbies are making a big comeback, and we find children are absolutely loving them this year"

Another huge seller is set to be the £39 Dr Who Dalek voice-changing mask, which covers the child's head and changes their voice into a Dalek monotone. The Daleks featured in the climax of the recent Doctor Who series, attracting 10 million viewers.

"Dr Who is an absolutely classic British brand enjoying a huge resurgence. I think the key with this product is that it is generally the parents who actually want it more than the children," said Mr Herman.

Board games are also set for a resurgence, with a new version of Monopoly which uses credit cards instead of cash set to be a big hit.

Hamleys has revealed a major refit in Regent Street, which includes a mini replica of Regent's Park inhabited entirely by bears.

The store is creating a new look for its 250th anniversary in 2010.
