...The time was January 1991. I looked in the back of STARLOG to see who was going to appear in the future. One of my favorite actors of all time was listed, and I was ecstatic. Thereafter, every month the brand-new STARLOG issue would materialize, and every month it would disappoint me because this guy wasn't in it. I started feeling like Didi in Waiting for Godot, constantly waiting and waiting and WAITING for something that never showed up. Finally. I went to the store the other day and found what I had been waiting for so patiently: STARLOG's long-awaited Jon Pertwee article!

I've got two misgivings about the article. One, an update about Pertwee's sequel to Moon Boots and Dinner Suits would have been nice. I've gotten several conflicting reports about that! Two. I've heard rumors that Pertwee may reprise his lead role in Doctor Who. if and when Sylvester McCoy quits and the show gets its gears in working order. Some sort of reference to this would have been good too.

Apart from that, I liked the article, especially Pertwee's remarks about what he sees as Doctor Who's behind-the-scenes swifto-keeno problems that happened during his run. He has a remarkable sense of humor and charismatic countenance. The first time I saw him on TV, I was eight years old and didn't pay that much attention to this "dandy" popping in and out of a police box. (For some reason, many Americans don't get into Doctor Who until they reach age 21.) About 11 years later, I saw Pertwee in The House That Dripped Blood, and damned if I didn't look at him and think. "I've seen hint before, but where?" It takes a mighty charismatic person to be recognized like that!

The American mainstream audience isn't really aware of Jon Pertwee's existence, which is a shame. It doesn't know what it's missing.

...I have some corrections to your list of missing Doctor Who episodes as given in issue #163.

You listed "The Crusades" 1, 2 as missing; Episode 4 is also missing. "The Time Meddler" 4 is not missing and the story is complete. "The Faceless Ones" 2-6 were listed; Episode 3 is not missing. "Evil of the Daleks" 1-7 were also listed, but segment 2 is not missing. "The Ice Warriors" 1-6 were named as lost episodes, but 1, 4, 5,and 6 have been found. "The Invasion" 2, 3, 5-8 actually do exist. Episodes 1 and 4 are missing. Episodes 5-8 were shown at PanOpticon X in England in October 1990.
