The BBC is planning to revive Doctor Who for the big screen — but who will be playing the legendary Time Lord? BBC Films. who announced their intention to make a Doctor Who movie a year ago. are still searching for the right man, but Insider can reveal that Gary Oldman is hotly tipped for the plum role. Who wouldn't want to own their own Tardis?' he told Insider. 'It all depends on the script and the money. but I wouldn't say no.'
Gary, who starred in Lost in Space and The Fifth Element, would relish the chance to take on the Doctor's arch enemies, the Daleks.
A source close to the production revealed: 'The Daleks will be entirely computer-generated creations. The technology that has become accessible since Jurassic Park means that a whole army — literally thousands of Daleks can now be created without having to build a single one.
'Computer effects can also render alien landscapes and vast space cruisers at no real extra cost. It won't be able to compete with Star Wars, but we'll give it our best shot.'
Doctor Who first landed on TV the day after President Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963 and disappeared in 1989. Gary Oldman would be the ninth actor to play the Time Lord.
