The zany BBC sci-fi series, which was carried by Channel 12 from June 1979 to December 1982, is returning to the public station. Beginning July 4, it will air weekdays from 11 to 11:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
"It's definitely a cult show," Channel 12 program consultant Mike Quattrone said yesterday. "When it went off the air, we got a tremendous number of letters and phone calls."
When the station ran an unprecedented "Dr. Who Challenge" fund-raising event in March, the response was even more overwhelming. More than $35,000 was raised toward the $50,000 acquisition cost of the series.
Would that Channel 12's telethons were as successful.
