COMEDIAN John Bishop says it's an "absolute dream come true to join the cast of Doctor Who.
He stars alongside Timelord Jodie Whittaker, below, and Mandip Gill, who is back as companion Yaz, in series 13 which is due to air later this year.
John said: "If I could tell my younger self I would be asked to step on board the Tardis, I would never have believed it. It's an absolute dream come true and I couldn't wish for better company than Jodie and Mandip."
John plays Dan who, said the BBC, is "travelling through space and time alongside the Doctor and Yaz, he'll face evil alien races beyond his wildest nightmares".
Show boss Chris Chibnall said: "Dan was built for him and it's a joy to have him aboard."
News of his casting came as John spoke of being overwhelmed by fans' support since testing positive for coronavirus on Christmas Day.
The 54-year-old said he and his wife Melanie were "flattened" by it and wrote on Twitter: "This is the worst illness I have had. "My wife and I are fit non-smokers and its flattened us. I don't wish this on anyone."
